PATHS
Cartography has provided a spatial understanding of the world for thousands of years. With technological advancements, the way we use maps has changed. A modern generation of mapping through GPS is the basis of our movements and our exchange of information. Clearly, there is a strong structure in life that exists and seeking to escape the daily cycle makes these patterns obvious. We continue to find ourselves following the same paths, which reflect our routines. ‘Paths’ is an exploration of the repetitive nature of everyday life through mapping journeys. The time spent in the same regions and traveling along the same lines has resulted in the creation of a visually dynamic wall installation. A translation of these repeating trails and movements into individual laser cut pieces of fabric visualizes this repetition for the observer.

Development
Using my phones GPS I began to map my daily journey from St Kilda to Brunswick to demonstrate what my repetitive paths are. From these trails, I created patterns, which reflect the routine nature of life. A series of swatches explore the mapping of these journeys. Experimentation with a range of techniques- digital print, laser cutting and traditional screen printing.
